House Wine Chardonnay: Yes, We Tapped That!
Tasting Date: 10/24/18
We chose to pair the House Wine Chardonnay with our tried-and-true pairing lunch: paninis and salads! Light flavors with just a touch of acidity from the salad dressing. A great start for a mystery white wine flavor.
The aroma was noticeably bright right away. Fruity notes dominated. It may also be noteworthy that this Chardonnay is a pale yellow color, more akin to what you’d expect from a Pinot Grigio.
As for the taste:
Kim: It was a great sip with lunch, not heavy or overly oaky. It has a nice balance of sweet and tart, and it’s easy going down.
Cindy: Very smooth flavor. It’s slightly buttery, but clean. Not rich.
Kim: It could handle some heavier foods well, maybe a salty shrimp scampi?
Cindy: Yes. That or a white sauce fettuccine dish would be great!
How Do We Compare?
The House Wine Chardonnay has this handy description on the back of their 3 liter box, “Fragrant aromas of peach, nectarine, and pineapple lead to a wonderfully flavored palate. Baked apple notes marry with toasty, integrated oak rounded out by a clean, balanced finish.” Fruits abound! This wine is definitely fruit forward, and it shows. It’s pleasant and simple, on brand for House Wine.
- Fruity notes of pineapple, peach, and nectarine lend this wine a sweet-yet-tart flavor.
- This wine would pair well with seafood and white sauce based pasta dishes.
- A casual and fun wine, it is perfect for relaxed occasions.
- Overall, we would give this 3 out of 5 Taps.
